Professor Hyo-Jick Choi
Dr. Hyo-Jick Choi is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta, and runs Sustainable Engineering & Drug Delivery Design lab investigating new materials directed towards health and environmental applications. He has amassed knowledge in different disciplines of science as the result of his diverse background. Dr. Hyo-Jick Choi is a firm believer of the decisive role of innovative technologies in improving the quality of life. With this belief, Dr. Choi has dedicated his research career to engineer sustainable technologies, which are focused on resolving global issues in environment (air filters, colorimetric gas sensors, CCUS) and health (infection control measures based on antimicrobial technology, disinfectant, and vaccine production technology).

Dr. Choi’s research provided a key technical background for developing hybrid reverse osmosis water purification membranes using protein-embedded artificial cell mimics.
2020 Founded A-BaVi Protec Inc. to commercialize antimicrobial technology (antibacterial/antiviral respiratory devices, PPE, etc).
